I’ve just come back from interrailing in Spain and Portugal for three weeks with a good friend and had the most amazing time. It was so good for me to unwind after the crazy Christmas season and feel refreshed before kicking off the new year. One of my particular highlights was getting to visit the ‘Museo de Prado’ in Madrid which is home to many remarkable paintings.
There was one painting which I found particularly moving. Diego Velazquez portrayal of Jesus in his work ‘Christ Crucified’ is breath-taking. As I stood and reflected on this image of Jesus hung on the cross with a crown of thorns on his head I couldn’t help but be overcome with emotion. I’m sure for some onlookers they may have been wondering what was going on for me in that moment as I reflected on the magnitude and weight this painting carries.
I wonder what I would have said if someone in that moment asked me what I was feeling. I questioned whether I would have been ready to share the reason for the hope I have in Jesus. This week I’ve been reminded of this verse;
‘Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.’ 1 Peter 3:15
This has been a brilliant reminder for me to be ready at any given moment to share the reason for my hope in Jesus. You see, I wasn’t overcome with sadness in that moment, rather, hopefulness because I know what comes next. So my question to you is, are you ready to share the reason for the hope you have in Him?
Have a brilliant week!
