Bart Millard is the lead singer of a band called MercyMe. He is a very successful singer songwriter and rose to fame when he wrote a song called ‘I can only Imagine’. It was a song that told his story.
Bart had grown up in a tough family situation. His mother abandoned him from a young age and his dad was abusive. He says he remembers that sometimes he got beaten so badly that he would not be able to lie down to go to sleep because of the bruises. Bart ran away from home when he was in his teens. Towards the end of his teenage years his father developed cancer. He had recently become a Christian and desperately wanted to restore his relationship with his son. Bart, naturally was unsure, however, when he watched his father avidly reading the Bible every evening on his sick bed, he knew there had been transformation. He said that in the last five years of his dad’s life, they became best friends.
He wrote ‘I can only Imagine’ thinking about his father. He wrote it drawing on his own thoughts and personal faith about what one would experience standing before God in heaven.
It was so successful that it is now the best-selling Christian single of all time with 2.5 million copies sold. A film has now just been released about Bart’s life under the same name. It has already become the third-highest grossing music biopic of all time.

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” - Revelation 21:4
