I have embarked on a new creative project but I am finding it daunting, so this week I want to get really practical and lead you in an exercise I did in my quiet time. It helps me make sense of all my thoughts when my mind feels busy. God asked me two questions:
1. What is making me feel afraid?
2. What made you want to do the project in the first place?
Then I went to the Bible, and read Proverbs 3:5. It says:
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.
Just because I am experiencing fear does not mean that I should let those feelings stop me being creative and pursue what I feel God is calling me to do. God asks us to do things outside our comfort zone because He sees potential in us when we cannot see it. It is important to know that our feelings are valid. It makes sense when we are trying something new that we would feel nervous and fearful, but if we allow those feelings to direct us, it is likely that we won’t step forward in what God is calling us to do.
Listen to God for the questions He has for you and write down the answers. Once you have written down the answers, grab another colour pen and listen to Holy Spirit again and get His response - it will be faith not fear, and will help you to trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.
Let me know how it goes!
