I hope you’re all well in lockdown. Today I’d like to focus on what it means to be humble.
In Matthew 11:29 Jesus said, ‘for I am humble and gentle at heart’. Now if Jesus is humble I believe that’s a call for us to also be humble.
In Philippians 2:3 Paul writes, ‘Do nothing out of selfish ambition. Rather in humility value others above yourselves’. This is the message of the Bible. It’s a message of great humility.
Of a man who 2000 years ago lived a perfect life then died on a cross so that we who turn to him may find life. A man named Jesus.
I want to encourage you to live a life of humility, one where God and others are elevated above yourself. It’s from this place that you will find life. Jesus says in Matthew 20 that those who want to be greatest must serve. He’s not saying they’ll serve and then be greatest, but instead saying that serving is the greatest.
But what does this look like for you today? Maybe take a moment today to reflect on where you can serve those around you today.
Another verse in the Bible I love is Micah 6:8, it says - ‘And what does God require of you? To act justly, and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God’
This is the call of our lives, to live lives which honour God and others before anything else. This is humility.
