Christmas is approaching and I wanted to send you a quick email before we head off to Catalyst next week. Christmas is a time filled with huge amounts of joy - not only because of the birth of Jesus Christ, but also the joy of being around friends and family we love. When we have a 'holly jolly' Christmas it really does feel the best. That Christmas (Holy) spirit makes you feel great.
Thankfully though, if it is not so 'holly jolly' for us this year, we can take comfort in knowing that Jesus was born into a messy situation. His mum was a teenager, his parents weren’t yet married and, as it tells us in Luke 2 there was no room for Jesus to be born, so He ended up being placed in a manger in a stable!
There was a prophecy about Jesus in Isaiah 7:14:
Therefore, the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.
Pretty cool to know that passage was written hundreds of years before Jesus was born. Jesus is called Immanuel (Matt 1:23). Immanuel is a Hebrew word which means God with us. During the real life challenges you may be facing, like; parents divorcing, exam results you weren’t expecting, family members being ill and struggling with friendships, we can have peace and know that Immanuel is with us, and He will help us.
I do hope you have an 'holly jolly' Christmas this year, but if its hard, take comfort in knowing that God is with you.
