Restlessness to Rest

Hey Lads,

Today I’d like to write to you about rest. Usually when people think of rest they jump straight to having a lie in, or a break from normal life. This is true to an extent, however it doesn't quite capture the fullness of what rest is.

In Genesis 2, God rests after creating the world. This may seem strange, why did God rest? Was He tired or out of breath? Did He pull a muscle, whilst making elephants? I doubt it. God rested out of completion because He was pleased with what He’d done.

In Hebrews 4 the writer talks about how we should ‘make every effort’ to enter God’s rest. Rest is the location of God’s presence. Time spent with God is rest, it’s where we’re restored and refreshed and He is revealed.

Ludwig Beethoven said, ‘God is an ocean depth of happy rest’.

Jesus said in Matthew 11:28, ‘Come to me all who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest’. In other words Jesus is saying, come to me and I will do the rest. He is calling us today to put aside all distractions, and give our attention to the One who is in control. When we live from this place of rest in Him we are tuning into His purpose for our lives.

I want to encourage you today to set aside an hour, turn off your phone, and simply just sit with your Bible open asking God to bring you into a place of rest. See what happens and I’d love to hear what you experience. Please feel free to text me on 07454337266.
