I’m aware that for many of you, this is not the most fun part of the year- exam season is well and truly here, and there’s no way around it, over it or under it- we have to go through it! Thank goodness it doesn’t last forever and one day you won’t have to do them anymore.
I wanted to give you some words of life to speak over yourselves and the work situation that you find yourselves in. Some of you might have this revision thing nailed and feel ready for what’s around the corner. Others of you might be starting to feel the pressure and anxiety creeping in. Whatever you’re feeling God wants to use this time to mould you and grow you if you let Him.
What I came to realise when I was revising for A-Levels and finals, was that it wasn’t so much a test in how much I knew, but it was a test of my character. It took so much self-discipline for me to say no to seeing friends, and sit down and teach myself what needed to be learned. It took patience with the process of revising, it took humility to keep asking God and others for help, it took self-control to not procrastinate and scroll through social media!
Persevering until the job was done was probably the biggest test for me- I wanted to give up towards the end! But I realised that more than passing my exams and achieving results, God was interested in the person that I was becoming. Character does not come when we’re finding everything easy and when the pressure’s off. It comes when we are uncomfortable, when there are pressures and when all we can do is to keep relying on the Holy Spirit to help us through.I went to an exercise class this week for the first time in a long time. It was painful! Developing character is like growing and strengthening our muscles. They are not going to grow and be stretched without some discomfort and pain. But God promises to help us and always be with us. The Holy Spirit will teach you, comfort you and help you and show you just what you need to learn.
Here are some words of life that you can speak over yourself and pray before your exams:
“This work is not impossible for me - I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.”
“I have a good brain that understands- I have the mind of Christ”
“I am not alone in this process- I have the Holy Spirit who is my Comforter and Helper.”
“The Lord is on my side, He is rooting for me, I will not fear or be anxious.”
“If God is for me, who can be against me?”
God is with you and 100% for you in this season- let Him grow you through it and keep declaring the truth of who you are and who He is to you. We are cheering you on from the Stewards' Trust office too!
