When The Holy Spirit Is Your Mentor

Sadly, this is my last Bible email to you all! Two years at the Stewards’ Trust have flown by and I’m getting ready to move on.

I have had the joy of meeting many of you on camps and events and some of you I have had the privilege of walking with you more closely, meeting up and praying together.

The first thing I want to say this week is how blown away I am by the girls I meet in the Stewards’ Trust. Some of you have had Christian backgrounds, others of you are new to it all, but there is a very sincere hunger to know God more, have encounters with Jesus and be filled in a new way by the Holy Spirit.

The second thing that I want to say to you is this:

No mentor, no leader or fieldworker can ever take the place of the Holy Spirit in your life.

It can be all too easy to look to our leaders to be the source of all counsel, wisdom and guidance and rely on them for advice and answers. But the truth is, they won’t always be around! People will come and go, but Jesus promised us someone who will stay with us through it all.

There is no better guide, counsellor, source of wisdom, comfort, encourager and friend than the Holy Spirit.

Jesus said in John 14:26 said:

But the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counsellor, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will help you remember everything that I have told you.

As Todd White said, “unless the Holy Spirit is your mentor, you’re screwed!” It’s true, unless we have first cultivated a relationship with the Holy Spirit, we will always be looking to others to help us and guide us through our faith instead of Him.

He knows the Father better than anyone and He knows you better than anyone, so why would we go to anyone else to lead us in our journey of faith? I urge you to keep building relationship with the Holy Spirit, as you would with a friend or mentor. Of course, we find strength, comfort and encouragement in our friends and leaders, but He is the ultimate mentor and ultimate friend.

Jesus’ intention for us is that we have a relationship with Him, through the Holy Spirit, without whom it’s impossible to do this journey we call ‘faith’.

The Holy Spirit is a person, who wants to be close to you and pour the Father’s love on you, so keep walking closely to Him!

If you would like some more teaching on who the Holy Spirit is and how to have a relationship with Him, I would highly recommend this book called, "Good Morning, Holy Spirit" by Benny Hinn- it changed my life and relationship with Him forever! You can buy it here.

I can’t wait to see some of you over the summer and hope you have the chance to be filled afresh with Him.
