Let's Be Humble

8 May 2020, 12:39 // Jackson Adkins

Hey Lads,

I hope you’re all well in lockdown. Today I’d like to focus on what it means to be humble.

In Matthew 11:29 Jesus said, ‘for I am humble and gentle at heart’. Now if Jesus is humble I believe that’s a call for us to also be humble.

In Philippians 2:3 Paul writes, ‘Do nothing out of selfish ambition. Rather in humility value others above yourselves’. This is the message of the Bible.  It’s a message of great humility.

Take a Moment

Hey Guys,

Today I want to encourage you to do one simple thing. Pause. Pause from what you’re doing, pause from all you’re carrying. Just take a moment and be still.

In this time where lots can feel stripped back, it can be easy to respond by filling up our lives again, in order to reach the busyness which was often consuming us. But I want to present to you an alternative. Stillness.

Psalm 46:10 - ‘Be still and know that I am God…’

I believe this verse highlights the simplicity of our calling. A call to rest, and rest in knowing our Creator. Jesus said:

Top Three Truths

Hey Lads,

Hope you’re all well despite all that seems to be shifting and changing around us.

Today I’d like to share three truths which have been on my heart this past month, in the

midst of the Pandemic we find ourselves in. I believe these are truths that bring hope, joy

and freedom to our lives, making us look entirely different to the world around us.

Giftings for God's Glory

Hey Lads,

Hope you’ve all had a wonderful week. Recently whilst reading the Bible I’ve come across a guy I’ve never really noticed. His name is Bezalel. Bezalel was an Israelite from the tribe of Judah, and was alive at the time of Moses, in fact he actually worked for Moses.

Restlessness to Rest

Hey Lads,

Today I’d like to write to you about rest. Usually when people think of rest they jump straight to having a lie in, or a break from normal life. This is true to an extent, however it doesn't quite capture the fullness of what rest is.

In Genesis 2, God rests after creating the world. This may seem strange, why did God rest? Was He tired or out of breath? Did He pull a muscle, whilst making elephants? I doubt it. God rested out of completion because He was pleased with what He’d done.

Prayer. Why do we pray?

Hey Lads,

Prayer. It’s a word we hear a lot in Church, although to many prayer can seem like an abstract religious act. But prayer is so much more than that. Prayer gives us personal access to the Saviour of the world and the Creator of the universe. Take a moment to think about the significance of that.

John Wesley said, “Prayer is where the action is.” He knew that prayer was what led to change, as it caused God to break through.

Imagine Heaven where we Stand

Hey Guys,

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year. Today I’d like to share one of my favourite parts of the Bible.

Colossians 3:1

‘Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honour at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.’

Stepping out, even when it doesn't make sense

Hey Lads,

Has anyone ever told you to do something that sounds completely stupid? That’s exactly what happens in this passage.

John 11:39-40 - “Roll the stone aside,” Jesus told them.

But Martha, the dead man’s sister, protested, “Lord, he has been dead for four days. The smell will be terrible.”

Jesus responded, “Didn’t I tell you that you would see God’s glory if you believe?”

Why Rolling Stones?

Hey Guys,

Hope you’ve had a fantastic week!

Recently I was struck by the most significant passage in the Bible, the resurrection. We read about this in all four gospels but this is what Luke writes:

Luke 24:1-3

‘Very early on Sunday morning the women went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. They found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance. So they went in, but they didn’t find the body of the Lord Jesus.’
