Lucy Green's blog
This Bible email I’ve found hardest to write, I want to talk about being hidden and since trying to write this I’ve realised there are so many different type of being hidden. Hiding from God, hiding from others and hiding from ourselves.
Hiddenness avoids being real and sometimes we don’t even know we are hiding it’s that hidden! What might we hide from God? Maybe our desires and our dreams for our future. What might we be hiding from ourselves and others? Things we are embarrassed or ashamed of and mistakes we’ve made we aren’t proud of.
Today I saw a piece of Banksy’s word art (always so timely). It said:
“Sorry the lifestyle you have ordered is out of stock!”
I am experiencing underlying grief that the lifestyle I normally enjoy, I now cannot. We’ve lost our sense of normal and are now fumbling around trying to find a new normal.
How are we all? Some of us may feel fired up to pray like never before and be filled with faith. Others of us may feel a bit deflated and disappointed. Either is welcome.
**TRIGGER WARNING** This blog talks about suicide.
Yesterday I went on a Christian Heritage walking tour of London.
1) I’d really recommend it and 2) there’s one person I learnt about I’d like to tell you about, Edward Chad Varah. Sound okay?
Varah says: "I made my debut in the ministry by burying a 14-year-old girl who had killed herself when her periods started, thinking she was ill. Then I read that there were three suicides a day in Greater London and I realised there ought to be an emergency number for suicidal people.”
Happy New Year Girls!
I know Christmas is over and so you’re wondering why I’ve put a carol as the title of this. Well I’m hoping to suggest an alternative way of thinking about New Year’s Resolutions and January culture. I’ve noticed New Year’s Resolutions can so often be focused on the outward appearance. This is not to say stop caring about how you look and that looks don’t matter. There's nothing wrong with liking looking nice. However, Britain’s top 3 resolutions revolve around diet and health. The second most popular being weight loss.
Last time I talked about how hard it is to come back to the reality of school life after a summer full of encouragement on festivals and house parties, and being surrounded by Christian friends.
