Who:
For those who want to step out of the everyday and take time before the Lord in worship, teaching, friendship, reflection and prayer.
What:
A Lent retreat day with Worship and Teaching on The Resurrection with Johnny Perkin and Rupert Charkham.The day includes a two course light lunch, use of the 24-7 Prayer Room and access to the Waverley Abbey grounds including the ruins of the first Cistercian monastery in Britain, built in 1128.Waverley Abbey has been a site of Christian prayer and worship for over 1,300 years and has a new centre of prayer in partnership with 24-7 Prayer.We have booked the Prayer Room from 8am – 10am and from 2pm to 6pm, for those wishing to take time in quiet prayer. The Café is open from 8.30am for anyone who wants to come along early.If the cost is an issue for you please contact to ask about about a discount or free place.Waverley Abbey is a Grade II* listed building and the first floor (where the talks will be) is reached by stairs and there is no lift.
Why:
Take time in Lent to consider the truth of the Resurrection and how it applies to our lives.________________________________ Rupert is married to Liz and they have two adult children. Rupert has recently retired having been Vicar of St. Michael’s Church, Chester Square, London. Before that he has been a Vicar in Cambridge and Salisbury. He has led missions in Australia, Africa and the USA and spoken at many house parties and events. He and Liz enjoy spending time with their family, travel, walking in the countryside (often following their Cairn Terrier). Rupert’s particular hobbies include digital photography, classical music and watching cricket. In 2016 Rupert was appointed Chaplain to the Queen and he is now Chaplain to the King. ________________________________ Jonathan was born in Woking, Surrey in 1952. He taught Geography at Ardingly College, Sussex, from 1976-1987. After ordination in 1991, Jonathan served in four parishes, Cullompton, Ashtead, Egham, and Churchdown. His first wife, Julia, died in 2003, and he then married Susie in 2005. They have six children and six grandchildren between them. Jonathan has written two books, one on Romans 6 and the other on Romans 8. His third book is hopefully out later this year on idolatry.
