What:
A Lent Retreat day with Worship and Teaching on The Cross with John Valentine.The day includes teaching, worship, a two course light lunch, use of the 24-7 Prayer Room and access to the Waverley Abbey grounds including the ruins of the first Cistercian monastery in Britain, built in 1128.Waverley Abbey has been a site of Christian prayer and worship for over 1,300 years and has a new centre of prayer in partnership with 24-7 Prayer.We have booked the Prayer Room from 8am – 10am and from 2pm to 6pm, for those wishing to take time in quiet prayer. The Café is open from 8.30am for anyone who wants to come along early.If the cost is an issue for you please contact to ask about about a discount or free place. Waverley Abbey is a Grade II* listed building and the first floor (where the talks will be) is reached by stairs and there is no lift.

John Valentine has served in churches in Norwich and London, including HTB, from where he planted St George’s, Holborn, which then planted two other churches. He is just finishing as principal of St Martha’s College, the theological college in the Diocese of Guildford, before becoming a freelance preacher, writer, theologian and church consultant. He is the author of ‘Follow me: Becoming a Liberated Disciple’ (IVP, 2009) and ‘Jesus, the Church and the Mission of God: A Biblical Theology of Church Planting’ (Apollos, 2023). His latest book on theological formation is due to be published by SCM in 2026. He is married to Catherine, and they have two adult children. He loves literature, film and theatre, and practically any sport that involves a ball.
