(h)Appy prayers (by Al Atkinson)

Praying can be hard sometimes. If you’re like me and you appreciate a helping hand or some prompts, then definitely check out Pray As You Go . Perfect for both a commute or a quiet time it’s an app, which provides a wonderful framework for prayer. As busy as I can be, I find setting aside 10-15 minutes a day either on the go or at home is an invaluable resource for strengthening my relationship with God and spending time in prayer.

Prompted by a piece of music, a Bible passage and some questions I find my prayers become far more focused and intentional when I plug my headphones in and take a moment to concentrate on what God is saying in the passage of Scripture being read.

One of my favourite things about this way of praying is that it provides a Biblical launchpad to my prayers, but the passages don’t follow a Bible-in-one-year style plan, meaning this devotional exercise fits nicely alongside a more concentrated Bible reading plan (shout out to the app Read Scripture by The Bible Project!).

I’ve found it to be a super way to recalibrate my approach to each day to align with what God is saying. I couldn’t do without the invaluable time of reflection and prayer it catalyses!

After growing up coming on our Youth Events, Al recently became one of our youth workers. He manages to squeeze in a couple of days a week with us, while also studying Theology at St Mellitus. He's a busy boy so well qualified to write about prayer on the go.
